The tapas come in a large variety of tastes and range in price from $5 for edamame, house spiced roasted almonds or Lava fries (sweet potato waffle fries with chipotle honey mustard) to $16 for a traditional Spanish tapas assortment. Half the menu features tapas, or small plates, where the idea is to order several different tapas, then your whole table shares the food so everyone gets to try a little bit of everything. NE, Lava has a Latin-Asian fusion theme with unique cocktails and a fun menu that will please the whole family.įeaturing Executive Chef Nathan Derrick, General Manager Matt Bettschart, an on-staff pastry chef that creates almost all their desserts, and a sous chef from New Mexico, Lava serves fresh food in an upscale casual environment. Lava, opened in January and is currently in Stage 1 of a multistage plan Kassouf is implementing. Kassouf also owns and operates Cibo Fusion and American Skillet in Cedar Rapids. He envisions his newest restaurant, Lava, as the type of destination restaurant where people can come to enjoy themselves and experience fantastic, yet reasonably priced food and cocktails. Tony Kassouf begs to differ with that statement, and it’s his goal to make sure that locals not only prefer to stay in town to dine, but also to bring people from outside the community and give them a great dining experience. One consistent complaint you hear about Cedar Rapids is that there is nothing to do here.
